The District approaches its 60th anniversary of proudly serving valley residents with quality service and recreational services, we continue to look for opportunities to improve and ways to keep up with the ever-changing times.

One example of our evolution is a new name and logo. The Coachella Valley Recreation and Park District will now be known as the Desert Recreation District. We thank each of you who provided feedback during our branding process. We believe our new identity will help you better recognize The District and its many
programs, classes and events.

As we move forward, the Desert Recreation District remains committed to being the “provider of choice,” the “employer of choice” and delivering service that is “second to none.”

Our team hopes to serve you in the future and encourages you to join us for a life-enriching experience with the Desert Recreation District.

A New Name, Look & Outlook — For You!

Change is a good thing. In fact, changing lives for the better is what we’re all about. So when we — the Coachella Valley Recreation & Park District — were faced with the need for change in order to grow and progress into the future, we embraced it. Part of that change is represented here in the Winter/Summer 2009 catalog. We have a new name — Desert Recreation District — and a new look. We have new ideas for communication, events and programs. We have new ways to better serve our employees and our guests. You could say we have a sunny new outlook on the future.

All of this positive change is part of a “branding” project that we have undergone for the past year. We needed to find out what it is about us that makes us special and different so we could emphasize that. Bottomline: Desert Recreation District is on a first-name basis with the health and welfare of each of our individual members with the goal of improving your lives and futures. In a word, “you” are what makes us special.

But our research also found that our old name was long and a bit confusing. And our approach to communicating with guests and employees wasn’t always as fun, flexible or cost-effective as it could be.

This catalog represents just the tip of the iceberg regarding what you can expect to see from us in the future. We love our new name. It is easy, memorable and defining. It establishes us as the regional provider of recreation. It is us. And the logo and accompanying tag line represent the essence of what we want to offer our desert members, “Fun in the Sun.” It is bright, cheerful, inviting and optimistic — all characteristics we believe define our program.

We have made these changes in order to remain active, progressive and vital as an organization. That, in turn, allows us to keep offering programs that keep you — our greatest priority — active, progressive and vital in your life!
